Correction is an event during which we would like to focus on analyzing the contemporary concept of patriotism, examine the rooted symbols in our culture, and confront them with current realities. Respect for history does not mean for us to consent to uncritical glorification of violence. We feel the need for actions that demystify existing patterns and work in the spirit of Krzysztof Wodiczko's "de-warification of culture." As a generation born in free Poland, we feel concerned about the growing disputes and do not agree with the ongoing cult of war.
The ŁASKI Collective (Anna Shimomura, Jagoda Kwiatkowska, Julia Golachowska) will conduct a Polish lesson where patriotic songs will resound anew in such a way that we can enjoy independence and tradition without turning a blind eye to the misogyny, militarism, classism, or racism still present in them. Fascination with war and violence will give way to stories of fear, doubts, and longing.
Patriotic tattoos for girls during Agata Lankamer's art class will help transform mythologized symbols and reinterpret them; Polish symbols such as the eagle will be juxtaposed with a butterfly or heart, believing that love for the homeland and the symbol of strength do not have to be represented by a sword.
We will start the whole event with movement activities, focusing on cooperation and ensuring mutual well-being. Mateusz Kowalczyk will initiate a refreshing warm-up, acting as the Polish Shaman during the CORRECTION event, conducting a performative match for the success of Wrocław's artists!
